About
The Wapen van Zoetermeer is known for its Hay Barracks. Originally, there were four Hay Barracks on the property, but now there are only three. In 1769, Pieter Lugtigheid had the farmhouse built, and his initials and the year of construction are engraved in the gable stone. Over the years, the Hay Barracks and the farmhouse have always been preserved and it is one of the municipal monuments of Zoetermeer. Over time, the condition of the Hay Barracks deteriorated significantly, leading to the decision to dismantle them in 2015. In cooperation with architect Arjan Luiten, the Hay Barracks have been rebuilt. Ultimately, the renewed three Hay Barracks were reopened on June 3, 2016, by then Mayor Charlie Aptroot.
With its open structure and cozy appearance, the hay barracks offer an intimate setting in the open air, perfect for a ceremony, reception/drinks, and/or lunch/dinner. Whether you choose a large number of guests or a small one, our hay barracks give every occasion a rural and romantic touch.
Enjoy the unique combination of being outdoors, rustic charm, and the freedom to shape your day exactly as you wish. Surround yourself with nature, history, and coziness – the perfect setting for an unforgettable day!
