Near the Oranjesluizen in rural Amsterdam, situated on a mound at the foot of the dike, lies the waterstaatskerkje (water board church) of Schellingwoude. An intimate white church that, together with its original music dome, offers one of the most romantic settings in Amsterdam.

Past and present
Historical research conducted before and during the restoration revealed that various churches have stood on the mound since the early 14th century. The current building dates back to 1866. The restoration of the Schellingwouderkerk was completed in 2000, giving the building a second life. The original interior was preserved as much as possible, and the pulpit from 1619, adorned with beautiful craftsmanship, was reinstated.
Choose heritage
In the 1990s, the number of churchgoers declined significantly. In 1995, discussions between the Reformed Congregation and the Amsterdam Monument Fund (which merged with Stadsherstel at the end of 1999) began regarding alternative uses for the church building in Schellingwoude. In 2000, the church was restored and has been available for events since. By renting the church, you contribute to the maintenance of this national monument and the character of the city of Amsterdam.

Wij hebben de ceremonie van onze bruiloft op deze bijzondere plek laten voltrekken, en zijn heel blij dat we voor deze locatie gekozen hebben! Daarbij een top babs & prachtig weer, mooier kon het niet :)
Een prachtige plek waar een sprookjes huwelijk voltrokken kan worden. De omgeving maakt het plaatje compleet en de sfeer in de kerk zelf geeft een unieke ervaring die diepe indrukken na laat.
